Whispers in Textiles
Like in Times are Changing you will find prints of bobbin lace made by previous generations in the Netherlands and Belgium. This is combined with Vietnamese embroidery. In Northern Vietnam, Hmong women still create these handworks, but the original dresses are more and more replaced by polyester printed fabric. The frog is a fine work from Belgium crafts, a fairy tale can tell you what is could represent.
At the bottom of this piece, Petra used a print of her grandmother’s delicately crocheted glove. When Petra was a little girl, her grandmother promised her a box full of lace, but an aunt had thrown out “that old stuff,” telling Petra it was dirty. Her disappointment disappeared when she inherited the gloves instead.
