Lakota

Lakota means ‘friends or allies’ and comes from the Lakota people in North Amerika.  An important motto of these people is ‘With all things and in all things we are relatives’. It is a prayer of harmony with all forms of life: other people, animals, birds, insects, trees and plants, and even rocks, rivers, mountains and valleys.

Petra believes we should take care of the health of our planet with the same caution as we take care of ourselves. She expresses this by uniting the figure of a human and a rock together.

Lakota is the smallest sculpture of the series TREASURES OF EARTH. In the Gulf of Tonkin there are thousands of limestone mountains and isles in various shapes and sizes, which can be seen from a boat floating through this interesting landscape.  The prints on the sculpture are made by using shells and other items found on the beaches of Ha Long Bay in northern Vietnam.
