Wax Hollandais is the name of beautiful and very populair fabrics which can be found in West Africa. They are industrially produced, colorful cotton cloths with batik printing. Those fabrics are actually Dutch, and made in the Netherlands. The original batik idea comes from the history the Netherlands have with Indonesia.
In this sculpture prints of Dutch laces are used. Also the color refers to the Netherlands. The sculpture itself is a West African lady, proud to show her fabrics.
