In the years that Petra de Vree lived in Ghana, she admired the strong appearance of it’s people. The power was not only in their personality, but Ghanaians are also physically very strong. Women put easy a 40 liter bucket of water on their head, or carry a heavy trunk without using their hands – as if it weighs nothing.
The broken and loose chains refer to the time that the Netherlands built forts from which slaves were shipped to America. Although relations between the two countries are good, those scars remain forever.
