The story behind my work.

Inspired by my womanhood and the energy, passion and drive of many other people who wish to live with full compassion, I make my statues of ceramics. With a lot of positive energy and time I transform part of myself into the statues without loosing myself. On the contrary, I grow as the process of coming-into-being of the statues gives me intense joy and satisfaction. Through my hands, eyes and fingers I search again and again for perfection in the esthetical forms, while in the process continuously creating another personality of the figures.

The forms in nature and other cultures inspire me too. The curving lines of landscapes, the spiral growth of vines, the splendid colours of fishes and birds, the unique creatures of the deep sea, the texture of a ploughed field. It is all there, I only need to open my eyes to see it. I was lucky to learn much about other cultures since I lived and worked in four different continents. This influenced my art. The daily lives of people there were extraordinary for me and gave me new perspectives. It filled me with inspiration and strengthened my idea that every human being is gifted with creativity.

The material clay is very mouldable and benign. I feel a strong connection with this material that the earth gives us and that is used in many different cultures. Working with clay and glazes results in many nice surprises . It is a beautiful experience when a work of art appears in all its new colours out of the oven. Surprisingly all the statues, once completed, give me the impression that I know them already. A kind of deja-vu, as if they had always existed and simply belong here. They became who they were in the first place and are here to stay.
